I debated for a long time about replacing my older Norelco shaver. I finally made the purchase when I came across a sale where it was discounted by $60. Although the Brain Series 9 Pro is still very pricey, it's an awesome shaver! It's almost as good as a blade. I really like the cleaning station as it's very easy to use and does a good job. Braun recommends daily cleaning, but after reading some online comments, that seems a little overkill to me. So I'm only using the cleaning station once or twice a week.I was always a bit sceptical about buying an electric razor like this. I mean look at the price! I then watched as the cost of disposable razors, and the impact they have, has spiralled. Should I reconsider? What should I look for? What options are there? HOW MUCH WILL IT COST!? You know - all the usual questions and dilemmas you have.Let's break it down. For me, as for many, price is always a serious consideration. Perhaps the first? Not always. I found that cheaper disposable razors would cause me skin rashes and more cuts. The better (and generally costlier) the disposable razor, the better the shave. I leaned towards the high end range of disposable razors - with electric motors. It's a good shave, so can it be as good with an electric shaver? I hadn't really thought about it until I couldn't get the razors I needed due to supply issues. I started to look into electric razors.I have to admit I had tried and electric razor years ago and it felt like the hairs were being ripped out of my face. That put me off and every time I used to think about getting one the experience came back from a memory cell I would have expected to have died years ago.I found out that there are 2 types of electric razor blade, foil (also called oscillating) and rotary. It was the rotary I had tried so I decided to avoid them. This quickly narrows down the choice and it came down to brand, recommendations and price. The Braun stood out but is expensive - how does it compare to my disposable razors?Shaving experience: I think this is as important as cost. I found that the Braun gives me a better experience and is friendlier to the planet. I don't have to fill a basin with water. I can dry or wet shave (splash of water or oil). The quality of the shave is identical, if not better for the Braun. It took me a while to get used to the shaver but once I did the shave is amazing. I will point out that there are some hairs I am struggling to get but I'm putting that down to technique.Cost: The upfront cost of an electric shaver can put you off. However, when you compare it to the ongoing costs, the numbers speak for themselves. I live in New Zealand and the average cost of 4 premium razor blades is approx $NZ25-$NZ35. Sometimes you get a 6 pack for that price, mainly it's 4 blades. So let's say 1 blade per week at $NZ6 per blade = approximately $NZ300 per year. It's amazing how expensive it can be! I paid just under $NZ600 for my new Braun delivered to my house from the US - and it took just over 2 weeks from order to delivery! You should replace the Braun head approximately every 18 months @$NZ90. I will be cutting it even at just over 2 years of shaving.Personally, I wish I'd bought an electric shaver years ago. I'm glad I bought this Braun.A real trail blazer, close to perfection in every way, you shouldn't be disappointed! ?Closer shaveLove the super close shave. Battery last much longer then I thought - nice.I’ve been using the $60 version of the Series 5, which I’ve liked just fine but it’s going to need a $45 head soon so I got this. It does give me a closer shave than the 5 but not by that much. The cleaner works ok but I recommend you brush and tap off the cut whiskers from the head after every shave and use the cleaner/charger about every 3rd shave. If you don’t clean out the head before cleaning, clots of trimmings end up in corners in the head and leaves the cleaning fluid reservoir dirtier for the next cleaning. I like it but it is a high price for the minor shave improvement and if you’re using the Series 5, just throw it away after about 2 years and buy a new one.Last week my trusty Braun Series 9 (model 9090CC) completely died after 7 years of use, so i opted to buy the brand new 9460CC Series 9 Pro and i have to say that after 2 shaves, it completely blows away anything else they’ve had previously.Compared to the original model Series 9 that I had, the Series 9 Pro is less noisy and Vibrates less but shaves infinitely better than the original series 9, and the cleaning station seems better designed. One of my pet peeves with the cleaning station on the previous model was that it sloshed cleaning solution everywhere causing a mess AND the cleaning solution to empty faster. The new shaving head is where Braun has really outdone themselves. The shaving head has seen a design upgrade and it shows. It mows facial hair so smoothly like a knife through butter. My first shave with the new series 9 pro was with 3 days growth and it just seemingly melted away the growth with minimal irritation. I found The original series 9 would have difficulty with anything longer than 3 days growth but the series 9 pro handled it like a champ without any strain. If anyone is on the fence, I definitely recommend buying the series 9 pro, you wont regret it. For those who have a current Series 9 and want to know if it’s worth the upgrade to the series 9 pro, then YES, it absolutely is. I find that the series 9 Pro blows away the previous models of the series 9 and its not even close.I bought this electric razor. I have no qualms at all but am very, very disappointed that the package did not include written instructions as to how it should be used to obtain optimum shaves. The package did include illustrations that are inadequate and insufficient. My wish is that I be sent a "user's guide." Yes, Amazon, this is the first time I am unhappy with a purchase from you.
